Anu and Clotas greatest evil against man was the turning of their hearts against one another. Men prized the jewels that they had crafted more than anything in the world, but none could craft jewels more beautifully than Balor. The Enlightened thus became more wealthy and powerful than
ever. As for the Faithful, Anu caused the earth to no longer produce crops for them, so their numbers dwindled. Even then Esus would not permit his remaining followers to interact with the Enlightened, even to beg for food. Some however became desperate and took to stealing food from their rivals fields. The hatred between the two nations grew over many years this way. Finally Clota convinced Balor that the Faithful must be stopped, and the Enlightened began the forging of weapons of war and armor. One day without warning the Enlightened attacked the Faithful. The Faithful being surprised and having little supplies were no match for the might and power of the Enlightened, and were all but wiped out. Balor personally sealed the souls of the survivors into his jewels, never to be released again until the Chaining of the Elders.
