Clotas work was complete. He had successfully taken the loyalty of men away from Esus. He now ruled the beings he once wished to destroy. He instructed them in the ways of hate and anger, and men became decadent and evil. Soon, he surmised, men would bring about their own destruction, and he would achieve his goal without disobeying the decree of Dagda. Esus anger burned at Clota for the Kinslaying. Though the majority of men were now under Clotas control, unbeknownst to him were the people of the mountains who had fled the Faithful city before the great battle. These few remained faithful to Esus and continued to serve him. Over the years the Enlightened grew more numerous and spread further and further across the earth.

Eventually an explorer of Balors kin discovered the people in the mountains. The remaining Faithful were amazed at his great knowledge and wished to learn more and deeper secrets. Though they served Esus, the hearts of men are easily corrupted with the temptation of wisdom and power. The explorer repeated Clotas lies that Esus wished to control them and keep them weak. The Faithful forgot the actions of their fathers and this time, none remained faithful to Esus. Now the anger of Esus was directed towards men themselves, even to the point where he wished they were never created in the first place. It was not Clota who was responsible for the downfall of man. Because men were created in the same image as the Elders, they had the same desires, hatreds, jealousies, and anger as they did. The disrespect of men for their creator infuriated Esus.
