The scientists and magicians of men became angered at the doom of men, how they must grow old and die and cursed Dagdas name for it. They continuously sought ways to prolong their already long lives in defiance to Dagdas will. At this time even Dagda became angered. He called forth the second council of the Elders. Though there still existed some hatred between them, they were united once more by their growing hatred of mankind. Though Dagda was indeed angry with men for their defiance of their fate, he restrained the other Elders from destroying men outright. We must send men a warning. They must be given the opportunity to fear the Elders once again. At this the elders manifested themselves in the world to show their power. Anu caused great food shortages and droughts, earning him the name Famine. Esus caused pests to destroy their homes and diseases that destroyed their bodies. Men named him Pestilence. Clota caused jealousy and fear to be turned into wrath, and men slaughtered each other for little reason. He was called War. Finally, Dagda claimed the souls of those that perished and sent them to torment for their deeds in life. Death was his name. Even then, men defied the Elders and cursed them for tormenting them.
