At this time, Balor was nearing death. He had lived longer than any man was ever meant to live. His magics kept him alive over these many years, but even that was now failing. His hatred of the Elders was unmatched, and in his dying days he planned one final action against them. In secret, he forged four great crystals more powerful than any he had ever
created, and he named them the Nechtan, the Elder-bane. He commissioned his remaining followers to construct a great enchanted island called Taranis. The Elders knew nothing of these works.

Seeing that man was beyond salvation, the Elders resolved to finally destroy mankind. Led by Death, they marched forward and began destroying everything in their path. Untold numbers of nations perished. The earth shook in the anger of the Elders. But Balor came forward and did as none of the Elders ever expected. Using the last of his magic he sealed the Elders into the Nechtan, just as he sealed the Faithful at the Kinslaying. The screams of the Elders souls being ripped from their bodies was heard the world over. Then all was silent. Though few remained, mankind was not wiped out. Balor placed the Nechtan on the island Taranis and his magicians put all kinds of enchantments on the island. Balor released the souls of the Faithful from the Kinslaying and commanded them to guard the island forever. Though they had once been loyal to the Elders, they were now mere wraiths with no will of their own. They protected the island ever
after. Balor died soon after the great battle and was buried on Taranis. His followers set the island in motion across the sea, never to be seen in the same place twice.
